Mo Bimpe has told critics of a premiere clip with Jide Awobona that her husband, Lateef Adedimeji, is a secure man and that a brief exchange with a family friend does not put their marriage up for public inspection.

The video comes from the 2 September Lagos premiere of *A Mama Deola Wedding Story*. In under a minute she leans in, shows Awobona her phone and rests a hand on his shoulder. Adedimeji is in the same row. That was enough for a familiar argument: where friendliness ends and disrespect begins, and whether a husband who does not intervene is calm or humiliated.

Some viewers said the body language was too familiar for a married woman on a red carpet. Others said Adedimeji’s face changed. None of that is a sworn account. It is a crowd reading a silent man in a noisy room.

Mo Bimpe waited four days, then answered on Instagram Stories. She called the clip a normal conversation that had been turned into analysis. Not every marriage, she wrote, runs on fear, monitoring and suspicion. Some run on trust. If the moment looked strange, she said, that said more about the relationships the critics know than about hers. She added that she understood if they could not relate.

The reply does two jobs at once. It defends Adedimeji as unthreatened. It also lectures the audience about their own homes. That second move is why the post travelled as far as the video. Supporters hear a woman refusing gossip. Detractors hear someone calling other people toxic for asking a question.

Nollywood lives on sets where colleagues hug, pose and sit in each other’s space. Off set, the same industry sells jealousy as plot. The public often applies the plot to the people. Mo Bimpe is asking to be read as a colleague at a premiere, not as a character in one of her films.

Adedimeji has not published his own version. Until he does, the marriage’s official line is hers: the man beside her was not in danger, and the people who thought he was are describing a different kind of union.
