The Oyo State Police Command have confirmed the death of six abducted children while in captivity and announced the rescue of 17 others following a major operation against a suspected child-trafficking syndicate.

Police said the breakthrough came after an intelligence-led investigation into a criminal network allegedly involved in the abduction, trafficking and concealment of children across multiple states.

The operation led to the arrest of seven suspects believed to be connected to the syndicate, while the rescued children were safely recovered and placed under protective care.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that six of the abducted children died while being held by the criminal group, a development authorities described as heartbreaking and deeply disturbing.

The command said efforts are ongoing to identify additional members of the network, uncover the full scope of its activities and ensure all those involved are brought to justice.

Police authorities also assured the public that investigations would continue until every victim linked to the syndicate is accounted for and appropriate legal action is taken against the suspects.

The rescued children are receiving medical attention, counselling and other forms of support as authorities work toward reuniting them with their families.
