Governors from the South-South region have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections while calling for deeper economic integration across the region.

The governors made their position known after a meeting focused on regional development, infrastructure expansion and strategies for improving economic cooperation among the six South-South states.

They commended ongoing federal projects in the region and stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments to unlock investment opportunities and accelerate development.

The forum also emphasized the importance of regional economic integration, highlighting the need for improved transportation networks, industrial growth, trade facilitation and greater utilization of the region’s vast natural resources.

According to the governors, coordinated policies and joint development initiatives would help boost economic activities, create jobs and improve living standards for residents across the Niger Delta.

They further called for sustained investment in critical sectors, including roads, ports, energy, agriculture and education, to strengthen the region’s competitiveness and long-term growth prospects.

The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working together on issues affecting the region, including security, environmental sustainability and economic diversification.

They expressed confidence that closer cooperation among South-South states and continued engagement with the Federal Government would contribute to faster development and greater prosperity for the region.
