Oyo Government Declares Thursday Holiday for 2026 Isese Day

The Oyo State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, as a work-free day to allow residents to observe the 2026 Isese Day celebration.

The state government said the decision was taken to recognise and support the annual celebration of Yoruba indigenous culture and traditional religious practices.

The declaration will provide residents with an opportunity to participate in various activities organised to mark the occasion across the state.

The government urged residents, especially traditional worshippers and cultural groups, to celebrate peacefully and responsibly.

It also called on citizens to use the celebration to promote unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among people of different cultural and religious backgrounds.

The state government stressed the importance of preserving indigenous traditions and passing the cultural heritage of the Yoruba people on to younger generations.

Traditional rulers, cultural organisations and other groups are expected to hold different programmes and activities as part of the celebration.

The government advised organisers and participants to ensure that all activities are conducted peacefully and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

It congratulated residents on the occasion and wished them a peaceful and successful Isese Day celebration.

The declaration further reflects the state government’s commitment to recognising and preserving indigenous culture and traditions as an important part of Oyo State’s heritage.
