President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to address world leaders at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, September 23.

He will speak as the 10th speaker during the morning session of the high-level General Debate.

According to a provisional list of speakers, the President is expected to deliver his address between 11:30 a.m. and noon New York time, which is 4:30 p.m. Nigerian time. The General Debate runs from September 22 to 28 at the UN headquarters.

Tinubu will join representatives of the 193 UN member states, including more than 150 heads of state and government. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is set to open the debate on September 22, followed by United States President Donald Trump.

The theme for this year’s assembly, to be presided over by Bangladesh’s Khalilur Rahman, is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.” Tinubu’s visit is also expected to include side events and meetings on climate action, pandemic preparedness and other global issues.

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, confirmed the President’s attendance. He said Tinubu would use the platform to present his administration’s reforms and discuss regional concerns, including border security in West Africa.
