The National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria has lifted its suspension on onion exports to Ghana with immediate effect.

The decision followed renewed talks aimed at resolving challenges that had disrupted cross-border trade.

In a notice signed by its President, Aliyu Maitasamu, the association said the move came after consultations with stakeholders, including the trade ministries of Nigeria and Ghana, diplomatic authorities, ECOWAS and other relevant institutions.

NOPPMAN had earlier halted exports over difficulties faced by Nigerian and Nigerien onion traders in the Ghanaian market. The problems centred on the reception, allocation and offloading of consignments at Kotoku Market, as well as concerns about the safety of legitimate traders.

Maitasamu urged Nigerian exporters and transporters to operate peacefully and comply with all applicable laws, trade procedures and market arrangements. He also advised them to maintain proper documentation and meet AfCFTA, ECOWAS, phytosanitary and customs requirements.

The association called on stakeholders in Ghana to ensure the safe reception, fair market access and uninterrupted offloading of legitimate onion consignments. It stressed that any disputes should be resolved through dialogue rather than intimidation or obstruction.
