BAT-IG Renewed Hope Policy File: Political Apointees Effectively Executing The Mandate

In any administration, the difference between policy on paper and its tangible impact is measured by the commitment of those entrusted with power. For President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the “Renewed Hope” agenda is a direct mandate that requires absolute dedication, strategic foresight, and adroit execution.

While governance in a complex nation presents immense challenges, a distinct group of public servants has emerged within the administration. These individuals do not merely occupy offices; they pursue their mandates with single-minded focus. They are the true walking and Working Carriers of the vision, demonstrating that when a mandate is pursued effectively, results are inevitable.

At the top of this list of high-achievers is Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS). Adedeji did not inherit an easy task, yet he has consistently met and surpassed highly ambitious revenue targets back-to-back.

His approach to tax administration has been characterized by modernization, digital transparency, and a relentless focus on expanding the tax net. Because of his proven track record, his responsibilities were expanded to lead the adding oversight for over sixty new revenue-generating agencies to his purview. Like the faithful servant in the biblical parable of the talents, his ability to steadily achieve results with what he was originally invested has earned him greater trust and critical political coordination responsibilities

Similarly, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, took the helm of the nation’s apex financial institution during a period of severe economic turbulence. Facing intense inflationary pressures, liquidity crises, and foreign exchange volatility, Cardoso took on his monetary policy mandate with absolute seriousness and technical precision. Through decisive policy adjustments, clearing long-standing foreign exchange backlogs, and restoring orthodox central banking principles, he has steadily steered the tottering financial sector toward much-needed stability. His silent but effective execution has restored a significant level of investor confidence, proving that technical competence combined with a dedicated pursuit of a mandate can stabilize even the most volatile economic environments. Cementing his legacy, Olayemi Cardoso, was named the Central Bank Governor of the Year at the 2025 African Banker Awards

In the realm of fiscal reform, Taiwo Oyedele has championed the mandate of creating a fairer, more efficient tax environment. Serving as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Oyedele successfully proposed a streamlined tax structure that eliminates redundant levies and directly supports business growth. The level of performance he achieved in his work catapulted him to become the minister of finance

Another standout performer is Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, who has completely revolutionized a sluggish federal bureaucracy. Upon taking office, Tunji-Ojo cleared massive passport processing backlogs within weeks, introduced automated E-Gates, and fundamentally rebranded the ministry through technology-driven reforms.

In the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has pursued his mandate with exceptional legal precision, administrative energy, and international diplomacy. He successfully resolved a two-decade-old debt dispute of over ₦1.2 billion that had long hobbled the growth and operational efficiency of Nigeria’s aviation sector. Under his direct supervision, Nigeria scored over 90% in international aviation safety and security audits, marking the highest rating the nation has achieved in many years. Furthermore, Keyamo’s aggressive engagement on the global stage led to the lifting of critical embargoes on aircraft leasing, thereby restoring international confidence in the Nigerian aviation market.

Senator Engr. David Nweze Umahi is a prominent civil engineer, former Governor of Ebonyi State (2015–2023), and Nigeria’s current Minister of Works whose action also align with the above individuals. During his two terms as governor, he earned national acclaim for transforming Ebonyi State’s infrastructure by constructing over 20 flyovers, an international airport, and pioneering durable concrete road technology. Since his appointment to the federal cabinet by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023, Umahi has been spearheading the nation’s most ambitious infrastructural transformation to date, overseeing over 2,000 active projects including the 750km Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway. By enforcing rigid concrete pavement technology nationwide for its 30-year lifespan, completing vital corridors like the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, and aggressively modernizing existing structures like the Second Niger Bridge, he continues to set a new national standard in patriotic engineering.

Complementing these efforts is Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who has pursued his legal mandate with remarkable diligence and courage. Fagbemi has protected the nation’s treasury through landmark legal victories, including securing absolute local government financial autonomy at the Supreme Court to boost grassroots development. He also led the successful defense in major international asset and arbitration disputes, effectively saving the country from catastrophic financial liabilities. Beyond civil litigation, Fagbemi has broken years of institutional inertia by aggressively prosecuting high-profile terrorist financiers and economic saboteurs, ensuring that justice is firmly upheld.

These individual success stories highlight a crucial truth for the entire administration: the goals of the Renewed Hope agenda are fully achievable when there is a will to execute. However, for the full dividends of democracy to reach the grassroots, this level of dedication cannot remain isolated to just a few standout agencies.

There is simply no time to lose because the daily realities of economic reforms continue to test the patience of citizens across the country. It is the urgent responsibility of every minister, director, and political appointee to justify their office by translating high-level policy into real relief for the average Nigerian.

To bridge this operational gap, public officials must deeply internalize the President’s core vision and step out of their offices to engage directly with local communities. True community engagement requires a genuine commitment to understanding grassroots needs and delivering timely, practical solutions that turn public skepticism into constructive partnership.

To effectively pursue a mandate is to prove oneself as a true partner in national progress. As the administration moves forward, all public servants must step up, dive into their responsibilities fully, and carry the Renewed Hope spirit to every sector to transform Nigeria’s potential into lasting prosperity.
