Women of Rubies Address Brand Dispute, Affirms Commitment to Mission

Women of Rubies Inc., a Canada-based media and communications company founded by Esther Ijewere, has publicly responded to an ongoing brand dispute involving U.S.-based Ruby Media Group, saying it remains committed to resolving the matter through lawful and professional channels.

In a statement, the company explained that the disagreement centres on concerns over similarities in the names of the two organisations. It noted that Women of Rubies began operations in Nigeria in 2015 before becoming incorporated in Ontario, Canada, in 2023, and has since operated independently as a media platform dedicated to promoting women’s achievements, leadership and professional growth.

The organisation disclosed that several complaints had been filed against its digital platforms in recent months, resulting in disruptions to some of its online presence. It said three Instagram pages linked to its activities were affected, while complaints were also lodged with LinkedIn, Medium and other online platforms.

According to the statement, LinkedIn temporarily suspended the company’s page while reviewing the complaint but later restored it after examining its incorporation documents and other supporting records during a two-week assessment.

The company also stated that an article written by its founder on Medium was reported. It said the original publication was later removed and replaced with an edited version that omitted names, private correspondence and other identifying details to comply with the platform’s content guidelines.

Speaking on the development, Ijewere said the dispute had extended beyond questions of branding and had negatively affected her professional activities, working relationships and confidence in introducing new projects.

She maintained that while she respects the right of businesses to safeguard their intellectual property, Women of Rubies Inc. is a separate organisation with its own identity, history and operations, distinct from Ruby Media Group.

Ijewere added that the organisation’s reputation had been built over years of media practice, storytelling, advocacy, training and community engagement aimed at supporting women across different sectors.

She further alleged that she had received communications she considered intimidating and that repeated complaints had been made against projects connected to her work. According to her, she initially chose not to speak publicly in the hope that the matter could be resolved privately.

The founder said the organisation has retained relevant documents, including business registration records, emails, platform notifications and other communications relating to the dispute.

Ijewere also stated that she has never met or conducted business with the owner of Ruby Media Group, nor has she claimed any association with the organisation or interfered with its operations or clients.

She appealed for any genuine concerns to be addressed through established legal processes, stressing that she was not encouraging members of the public to harass or target anyone involved in the dispute.

Women of Rubies Inc. reaffirmed that it would continue its work in media, communications, leadership development and advocacy for women while pursuing what it described as a lawful and professional resolution of the matter.
