Guma Council Chairman Hon. Maurice Orwough Reports End to Herdsmen Attacks in Benue Communities
The Chairman of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State has said that attacks attributed to armed herders in the area have stopped, expressing hope that residents can continue their farming and other daily activities without fear.
The council chairman made the disclosure while speaking about the security situation in Guma, an area that has experienced repeated clashes and displacement linked to farmer-herder conflicts.
He said efforts by security agencies, community leaders and the local government had contributed to improving the situation and restoring confidence among residents.
The chairman also emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and strengthening cooperation between communities and security personnel to prevent a resurgence of violence.
Guma, located in Benue State’s food-producing belt, has faced security challenges that have disrupted farming, displaced residents and damaged livelihoods.
The chairman urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the appropriate authorities, stressing that sustaining peace requires cooperation from all stakeholders.
He further called on relevant authorities to continue supporting affected communities and strengthen security measures to protect lives, property and agricultural activities.
The reported improvement in security is expected to encourage residents to return to their farms and resume normal activities, although sustained monitoring and effective protection remain important to ensuring lasting peace in the area.
