Tinubu Challenges Political Leaders to Explain Cost, Sustainability of Campaign Promises

President Bola Tinubu has urged political leaders seeking public office to provide clear details of the financial implications of their campaign promises, their implementation strategies and how they intend to sustain them without imposing additional burdens on Nigerians.

The President said government policies and commitments must be supported by credible plans and sustainable financing, warning that postponing the cost of political promises could leave citizens and future generations to bear the consequences.

Tinubu stated this on Sunday in a post on his X account, where he highlighted the need to balance immediate economic relief with long-term national interests.

He said his administration’s decisions were guided by the responsibility to address present needs without jeopardising the future of younger generations.

The President argued that anyone seeking to lead the country should be prepared to explain how proposed policies would be funded and implemented, rather than making commitments whose financial consequences could emerge later.

Tinubu also highlighted the experiences of Nigerians, including Blessing, Ada, Abigail and Kabir, noting that their stories reflected how government investments could affect people’s everyday lives.

He further acknowledged a request from Emmanuel, saying it underscored the need to extend essential services to more Nigerians who were still waiting to benefit from them.

On transportation, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to widening access to affordable services across the country.

He said the Federal Government would continue working with state governments to ensure that more communities benefit from affordable transportation.

The President maintained that expanding access to essential services remained an ongoing responsibility, requiring sustained efforts and collaboration between the different levels of government.
