Iran Plans Restricted Zone Outside Strait of Hormuz

Iran has said it will announce a restricted zone outside the Strait of Hormuz in the coming days. The statement came from Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the country’s Supreme National Security Council.

According to state media, the planned zone will start from the line of the US Navy’s blockade and extend into areas of the Gulf. Rezaei made the comments as tensions remain high in the region.

The move is linked to the ongoing standoff involving maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil shipments and has been at the centre of recent friction between Iran and the United States.

Iranian officials have previously spoken of measures aimed at asserting control over waters near the strait. The latest announcement adds to the series of statements from both sides regarding naval presence and shipping restrictions in the area.

Further details on the exact boundaries and rules of the restricted zone are expected to be released in the coming days. The development is being closely watched as it could affect commercial shipping and regional security dynamics.
