Peter Obi Calls for Greater Investment in Education, Human Capital
Former Anambra State governor and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has called on governments at all levels in Nigeria to place greater priority on investment in education and human capital development.
According to him, focusing on education is essential for building a productive society and creating sustainable economic growth in the country.
Obi explained that while infrastructure development is important, investing in people should come first. He noted that nations that have made significant progress around the world did so by strengthening their education systems and equipping their citizens with the skills needed to compete in the modern economy.
He stressed that education remains one of the most powerful tools for reducing poverty and improving opportunities for young people. By providing quality education and training, Obi said the government can empower citizens to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and professionals who contribute meaningfully to national development.
The former governor also highlighted the importance of preparing Nigeria’s growing youth population for future challenges. He stated that prioritizing human capital development would help the country build a knowledgeable workforce capable of driving industries, attracting investment, and strengthening economic stability.
Obi therefore urged policymakers and leaders across the country to rethink national priorities and increase funding for education and skill development. He maintained that when governments invest in people, the benefits extend beyond individuals and help create a stronger, more prosperous nation for generations to come.
