Tayo Sobola Opens Up On Reasons Behind Her Time Away From Public View
Nollywood actress Tayo Sobola, popularly known as Sotayo Gaga, has explained that her extended periods away from the public spotlight were a deliberate choice rooted in her desire to protect her peace and preserve her personal space.
Speaking in a recent interview, the actress said her absence from the entertainment scene did not mean she had stepped back from being productive, revealing that the time was instead channelled into personal reflection, motherhood and the growth of her various business ventures.
According to Sobola, the periods she spent off the public radar were used for introspection and brand building, and by the time she felt ready to return to acting, motherhood had taken centre stage in her life, a phase she embraced fully rather than treating as a distraction. She noted that being a mother did not stop her from pursuing other interests, explaining that she describes herself as a serial entrepreneur who runs several businesses.
While balancing the demands of parenting, she continued working on brand positioning, developing new designs for her fashion labels and writing movie scripts, among other projects running in the background.
The actress also spoke about the relationship between her real name and her widely recognised stage name, Sotayo Gaga, describing the two identities as complementary rather than competing. She likened them to Siamese twins that benefit from one another, noting that while many people identify more strongly with the Sotayo Gaga brand, neither name overshadows the other in reality.
She added that she has simply learned over time when it is most appropriate to lean on each identity, depending on the context.
Beyond acting, Sobola has built a reputation as one of the more entrepreneurially minded figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with interests spanning fashion and film production alongside her work on screen. Her comments suggest that fans can expect a more visible presence from her going forward, following a period she has now framed not as a retreat from the industry but as a deliberate investment in the brands and business interests she has spent recent years quietly building.
