Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, the president-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association, has pledged to resign if credible evidence of rigging emerges from the election that brought her to office. She made this commitment during an interview, dismissing allegations of malpractice.

Badejo-Okusanya said the electronic voting process was closely watched and showed no signs of manipulation. She noted that her lead remained consistent throughout the voting, with no sudden surges that could suggest foul play.

The senior advocate compared her stance to that of former President Umaru Yar’Adua, who admitted flaws in his own election. She said she would not stay in office if her victory is successfully challenged.

She also addressed claims of receiving backing from the outgoing NBA president, saying he never told her she was his preferred candidate.

Badejo-Okusanya rejected suggestions that her family ties to the federal government would affect the association’s independence.

The lawyer promised to focus on making the NBA more relevant to its members and strengthening its role in defending the rule of law. She urged Nigerians to judge her leadership by how well she protects justice and supports the less privileged.
