ADC Chieftain Accuses INEC Chairman of Bias, Questions Integrity

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, of dishonesty over a controversy involving alleged pro-All Progressives Congress (APC) posts linked to him.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Okonkwo dismissed Amupitan’s claim that the social media account at the centre of the controversy was a parody, insisting the explanation lacked credibility.

He described the INEC chairman as a “transparent liar,” arguing that the situation raises concerns about the neutrality and integrity expected of an electoral umpire.

Okonkwo cited constitutional provisions requiring members of the electoral commission to be non-partisan and of unquestionable character, stressing that any perceived bias undermines public confidence in the institution.

He further alleged that Amupitan’s conduct suggested political alignment, claiming the INEC chairman appeared closely associated with President Bola Tinubu.

The ADC chieftain warned that such perceptions could damage the credibility of the commission if not addressed.

The controversy comes amid increasing scrutiny of INEC by opposition parties, as political activities gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
