80% of Tinubu’s Completed FCT Projects Were Inherited From Previous Administrations, Says Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that about 80 per cent of the projects completed under President Bola Tinubu’s administration in Abuja were initiated by previous governments.

Wike made the remark on Tuesday during the inauguration of the newly completed dual carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), stretching from the Ring Road I Junction near Gudu Cemetery to the Ring Road II Junction at Kabusa.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony attended by President Tinubu, the minister said the administration had demonstrated leadership by prioritising the completion of inherited projects rather than abandoning them for new initiatives.

According to Wike, many administrations would have preferred to focus solely on projects conceived under their tenure, but Tinubu chose to ensure the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects for the benefit of residents.

The minister praised the contractor handling the road project for delivering on its commitments, noting that he personally conducted multiple inspections to monitor progress and ensure the project met agreed timelines.

Wike said the completed road would significantly improve traffic flow around the Apo Mechanic Village corridor, an area that has experienced congestion for years.

He also recalled that successive administrations had made promises to relocate operators in the Apo Mechanic Village to a more suitable location as part of efforts to decongest the area, but those commitments were largely unfulfilled.

The minister expressed confidence that beneficiaries of the project would acknowledge the Tinubu administration’s efforts in delivering on long-standing infrastructure promises.

He further described the completion of inherited projects as evidence of responsible governance, stressing that continuity in development projects remains essential to achieving meaningful progress in the Federal Capital Territory.

President Tinubu commissioned the two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway as part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to improve transportation infrastructure and ease movement within Abuja.
