Tragedy as Mother, Newborn Die Following Quadruplet Birth in Lagos
A 28-year-old woman, Charity Anani, has died alongside one of her newborns weeks after delivering quadruplets at a private hospital in Lagos State.
Her husband, Paul Anani, confirmed that she died on April 3, 2026, following complications linked to breathing difficulties that began the previous evening.
According to him, Charity developed respiratory problems on Thursday and was placed on oxygen and medication after doctors were alerted. However, her condition deteriorated overnight, and she passed away the next morning at Adebayo Hospital.
The deceased had earlier delivered four babies on February 27, 2026, a development that came as a surprise to the family, who had initially expected twins based on ultrasound scans.
One of the quadruplets, who had been placed in an incubator due to complications, also died before the mother’s passing. The remaining three babies are said to be in stable condition and are currently under the care of family members.
Paul said the incident has left the family devastated, adding that his wife had inquired about the condition of the baby before her death, but he chose not to disclose the child’s passing due to her fragile state.
The family had previously sought public assistance to offset medical bills estimated at N3 million, of which about N1.4 million remained unpaid at the time of the incident. Despite the outstanding balance, the hospital discharged the family following the tragedy.
The incident adds to growing concerns over maternal and infant health challenges, as well as the financial burden of medical care on families.
