Assemblies of God Condemns Attack on Ughelli Church, Orders Probe

The Assemblies of God Nigeria has condemned a violent attack on one of its churches in Ughelli, Delta State, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable.

In a statement issued by its General Council through the church’s media ministries, the organisation said the April 12, 2026 attack targeted a senior pastor and his family, leaving victims injured and traumatised.

The church clarified that the assailants, who were reportedly dressed in Royal Rangers uniforms, were not acting under its authority, stressing that the group’s leadership did not sanction the attack.

It emphasised that members of the Royal Rangers are non-combatant and law-abiding, noting that preliminary findings indicate the incident was neither authorised nor known to the organisation at any level.

According to the statement, the matter has been reported to law enforcement agencies for a full investigation, while an internal inquiry has also been initiated to determine both immediate and underlying causes.

The church assured members and the public that justice would be pursued without bias and that anyone found culpable would face disciplinary action.

It added that both district and national leadership were actively managing the situation and called for calm, urging the public to avoid speculation as due process continues.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, order and its core spiritual values.
