Adeleke, APC Guber Candidate Clash Over State of Osun Healthcare Sector

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flagbearer for the 2026 election, Bola Oyebamiji, are locked in a public dispute over the state of healthcare delivery in the state.

The disagreement followed comments by Oyebamiji, who vowed to carry out a sweeping reform of Osun’s health sector if voted into office, arguing that medical facilities across the state had fallen into serious neglect. He maintained that the poor condition of healthcare infrastructure had continued to undermine development and the well-being of residents.

The APC candidate, speaking through his campaign movement coordinator, Adebayo Adedeji, alleged that the health sector had worsened under the current administration.

Adedeji, in a statement released on Saturday, insisted that criticisms directed at Oyebamiji would not erase what he described as verifiable facts already known to the public.

He referenced findings by CheckMyPHC.org, which reportedly highlighted major shortages of personnel in Osun’s primary healthcare centres.

According to the report, about 73 per cent of the facilities were said to be inadequately staffed, with many operating with one or no health worker, while 44 per cent allegedly had no staff at all. The report further indicated that several centres were without potable water, functional toilets and basic sanitation amenities, thereby affecting effective service delivery.

Adedeji also recalled that during the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola—when Oyebamiji served in government—over 300 out of the state’s 600 primary healthcare centres were refurbished. He accused the Adeleke-led government of abandoning and failing to maintain those upgrades.

In response, Governor Adeleke rejected the allegations, describing them as unfounded and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

He asserted that Osun currently leads the South-West region in the provision of primary healthcare services.

The governor stated that since assuming office, his administration had renovated more than 200 primary healthcare centres across the state. He further accused Oyebamiji of being part of a committee under the previous APC administration that allegedly mishandled a $20 million World Bank fund meant for the rehabilitation of primary healthcare facilities.

Adeleke added that Osun would not revert to what he described as an era of insensitive governance, insisting that his government remained committed to improving healthcare delivery for residents across the state.
