The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has clarified that it did not introduce or fix the controversial N30,000 taxi fare from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The authority said the rate was not created through its Airport Car Hire Rank Management System.

In a statement on Thursday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, responded to public criticism sparked by a video from travel content creator Chris Joondeph. The video showed a quoted fare of N30,000 for a trip from the airport to the Radisson Hotel in Ikeja.

FAAN explained that the airport taxi fares in question had existed long before the introduction of ACHRAMS. The system was designed only to improve the management and visibility of authorised car-hire operations, not to set or change the prices.

The authority noted that the comparison with much lower fares on e-hailing platforms such as Uber and Bolt had increased public concern. Passengers had become used to cheaper options available through those apps.

FAAN stressed that it supports healthy competition in airport transportation and has no intention of creating a monopoly. The clarification came as the authority also announced that it had resolved operational issues with Bolt, allowing the e-hailing service to resume operations at its managed airports.
