UK Court Confirms Five Charges Against Poco Lee

A UK court has confirmed that Nigerian dancer and entertainer, Iweh Pascal Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is facing five sexual offence charges.

Snaresbrook Crown Court in London said the charges comprise one count of attempted rape, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.

Court officials confirmed the listing after earlier reports of his arrest circulated widely in Nigeria and among the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom.

The alleged incidents are reported to have taken place in Tower Hamlets, east London, on 23 July. A reporting restriction is in place to protect the identity of the complainant under the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992, meaning details that could identify the person making the complaint must not be published.

Poco Lee had travelled to the UK earlier in the month and appeared at public events, including the Davido and Friends concert at Crystal Palace Bowl on 14 August. No verified link has been established between those performances and the charges now before the court.

He first appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 18 August, after which the case was transferred to Snaresbrook Crown Court. He remains in custody and is due back on 15 September for a plea and trial preparation hearing, where he is expected to enter a formal plea.

He has not been convicted of any offence. The charges remain allegations to be tested in court, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence until the case is determined.
