FRSC Commander Vows to Crack Down on Tricycle Overloading in Kebbi

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kebbi State Command, has issued a stern warning to tricycle operators, vowing to intensify enforcement measures against overloading and other unsafe road practices.
The warning was delivered on Monday in Birnin Kebbi by the new Sector Commander, Rukayya Zakaria, during an event celebrating the 2025 Global Customer Service Week, themed “Mission Possible.”
Commander Zakaria expressed serious concern over the growing trend of dangerous practices among tricycle drivers, specifically citing instances of carrying excess passengers and engaging in mixed loading (carrying both passengers and goods in an unsafe manner).
“I have observed that many tricycle drivers carry excess passengers and even place goods on top of their vehicles. I recently saw one carrying nearly 10 people,” she stated.
She urged operators to prioritize safety and strictly adhere to all traffic regulations, stressing that the FRSC’s enforcement actions are fundamentally aimed at protecting lives and drastically reducing road crashes in the state.
“What we are doing is not for ourselves but for the safety of all road users. If they cooperate with us, we can minimise accidents to the barest minimum,” Zakaria said.
Union Pledges Partnership
Speaking at the same event, Garba Dan-Malam, the state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), pledged his union’s continued commitment to partnering with the FRSC.
He assured the command that the union would work to enhance safety and ensure its members comply with traffic rules across Kebbi State.
