Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu is heading to the United States for talks with President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday.

This will be their first in-person meeting since the Iran war began, a conflict over which the two leaders have publicly disagreed.

Relations between Netanyahu and Trump have shown some strain in recent months, especially during ceasefire negotiations in April. Trump at one point described the Israeli leader as a “very difficult guy,” while Netanyahu later called their differences “tactical disagreements.”

The meeting is expected to focus mainly on the Iran conflict. Israel has stayed out of the latest round of hostilities between the United States and Iran after an earlier ceasefire collapsed. Both sides say they want to protect their security interests while exploring ways to expand peace in the region.

The leaders are also likely to discuss the implementation of a recent US-sponsored framework deal between Israel and Lebanon. Progress on the ground has been slow. Talks may also touch on the ongoing situation in Gaza, where reconstruction efforts remain stalled and the humanitarian crisis continues.

Analysts say the visit is partly aimed at showing the world that there is no major break in ties between the two allies.

Netanyahu’s trip comes months ahead of Israeli elections, where he plans to seek another term amid lingering public concerns over security issues.
