Ex-Osun Council Chairman Sues IGP, Others, Demands ₦500m Over Alleged Arrest Threat

A former caretaker chairman of Irewole Local Government Area in Osun State, Babajide Jooda, has filed a ₦500 million lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police and other senior police officials over an alleged threat of arrest.

Jooda is challenging actions taken against him by the police, claiming that he was unlawfully declared wanted and subjected to intimidation based on what he described as a questionable court order.

In the suit, he is seeking monetary damages and judicial relief, arguing that the actions of the police authorities violated his fundamental rights and damaged his reputation.

The former council chairman also asked the court to restrain the police from carrying out any arrest or further actions against him based on the disputed order.

According to court filings, the case stems from events linked to the prolonged political and legal disputes surrounding local government administration in Osun State.

The lawsuit adds a new dimension to the ongoing legal battles involving political stakeholders and law enforcement authorities in the state, with the court expected to determine the legality of the actions being challenged.
