BBL Won’t Bring You Happiness, Hilda Dokubo Counsels Actresses
Veteran actress, Hilda Dokubo has advised young women, particularly aspiring actresses, not to alter their bodies simply to attract attention or impress men.
Speaking in an interview, Dokubo said body enhancement is a personal choice if it is affordable and done to build confidence. She argued, however, that using procedures such as a Brazilian Butt Lift to impress men is often a waste of time.
“If you think the only reason for reworking your body is because you want to show men shege, which men are you showing shege?” she asked. She said most men, if asked to choose, would still prefer a natural body.
Dokubo also questioned why women should go through painful and expensive procedures for approval that men would not seek in return. She urged women to accept that their bodies change through puberty, pregnancy, motherhood and menopause, and to find contentment without needing anyone’s approval at every stage of life.
Her comments add to an ongoing conversation in Nollywood about beauty standards, cosmetic surgery and whether appearance now outweighs talent in the industry.
