Nigeria Surpasses OPEC Quota for Third Straight Month as July Output Reaches 1.67 Million Barrels Daily

For the third month running, Nigeria has surpassed its OPEC daily production benchmark of 1.5 million barrels, according to recent figures published by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

Throughout July 2026, national output averaged 1.505 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil alongside 0.17 mbpd of condensate, yielding an aggregate daily yield of 1.67 mbpd.

Across the month in question, daily output figures peaked at 1.78 mbpd for combined crude and condensate, while the lowest recorded daily volume stood at 1.57 mbpd.

Despite successfully meeting its OPEC target for July, the data indicates that monthly total output dropped by four percent compared to the prior period.

The NUPRC attributed this monthly decline to technical disruptions encountered at the Erha and Akpo production hubs, which restricted operational capacity over the evaluation timeframe.

These technical setbacks limited overall output volumes and served as the primary driver behind the month-on-month decrease in the country’s crude production.

Notwithstanding these operational hurdles, activity across most other field assets remained steady, with concessionaires introducing measures to preserve operational effectiveness and cushion the impact of technical bottlenecks.

The updated performance follows the previous month’s results, where the country fulfilled its OPEC allocation as joint crude oil and condensate extraction climbed to an average of 1,735,398 barrels per day in June 2026, marking four consecutive months of positive expansion.

According to an official NUPRC release issued on Sunday by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head of Media and Corporate Communications, crude oil extraction alone reached 1.56 mbpd in June, supported by 0.18 mbpd in condensate volumes.

This output enabled Nigeria to achieve 104 percent of its 1.5 mbpd crude oil target assigned by OPEC.

Excluding condensate volumes, the 1.56 million daily crude oil average registered in June marked the highest level achieved by Africa’s top oil producer since April 2020, representing a 74-month peak.
