Emergency response teams have pulled 13 individuals from under the rubble after a residential building collapsed early Saturday morning in the Dan Dishe neighborhood of Kwanar Yashi, within the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving 16 people injured.

Confirming the incident, the Kano State Fire Service revealed that its Emergency Response Unit received an urgent distress report at approximately 4:32 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of rescue teams to the scene.

According to a public statement issued by the Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, the affected structure measured roughly 20 by 30 feet before it caved in.

Out of the 13 individuals successfully extracted from the collapsed premises by rescue crews, 10 survivors were rescued conscious, while three others were pulled out unconscious and immediately given emergency medical attention.

The Fire Service identified five of the conscious survivors as Al-Mustapha Yusuf (15), Khadija Yusuf (7), Ummusalama Yusuf (10), Madina Yusuf (6), and Hafsat Yusuf (9), alongside eight other unidentified individuals who were rescued alive.

The three unconscious victims were identified as Affan Yusuf (5), Hassana Yusuf (7), and nine-month-old infant Ummulkursum Yusuf. All rescued victims were subsequently released to Usman Ibrahim, a relative of their family, for further necessary care and medical monitoring.

Authorities stated that the precise cause of the structural failure remains unknown, with official investigations currently ongoing.

In light of the incident, the Kano State Fire Service cautioned members of the public to strictly adhere to structural safety measures and report visible signs of building distress to authorities, particularly during the ongoing rainy season.
