Kano/Jigawa Customs Command Records N63.07 Billion Revenue in First Half of 2026
The Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command has generated N63.07 billion in revenue from January to June 2026.
The Acting Area Controller, Usman Umar Adamu, announced this during a briefing with journalists at the Customs House in Bompai, Kano. He noted that the amount exceeded the N58.3 billion collected in the same period of 2025 by N4.6 billion, showing a 7.4 per cent increase.
Adamu attributed the strong performance to intensified enforcement activities, intelligence-driven operations, and good collaboration with other agencies.
The command also recovered about N3 billion from abuse of transit procedures during the six-month period. In addition, 14 containers involved in diversion and abuse of transit procedures were intercepted.
The Kano Free Trade Zone made a significant contribution, generating over N26 billion in the first half of the year. This figure surpassed the total revenue collected by the zone for the whole of 2025.
The command made several notable seizures, including smuggled vehicles, foreign rice, spaghetti, vegetable oil, and counterfeit packaging materials.
A total of 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures. Some have been handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation, while others are on administrative bail. The command continues to focus on protecting the nation’s economy and preventing the importation of prohibited goods.
The Acting Area Controller urged members of the public to comply with government fiscal and trade rules as the year progresses. He assured that the command will keep working to facilitate legitimate trade while generating more revenue for national development.
The achievements highlight the importance of sustained enforcement and teamwork in customs operations.
