The Oyo State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery and truck-hijacking syndicate.

The group specialised in hijacking, diverting and stealing trucks from drivers within Oyo and neighbouring states before moving the vehicles to receivers in Kwara State.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the arrests followed actionable intelligence and a tip-off from members of the public. The Command was informed that the syndicate planned to operate on August 24, 2026.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Olugbenga directed operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit to mount an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The team intercepted a white SINO HOWO truck and arrested two suspects, Ojedokun Olakunle Isaac and Ajuwon Ismail.

One of the suspects confessed to masterminding the hijacking of the truck from his master. His confession led to the arrest of two other members of the syndicate, Adekunle Sunday and Rasheed Music. Investigations showed that one of them routinely drove the stolen trucks while another specialised in removing vehicle trackers.

The operation disrupted the syndicate’s plan and resulted in the recovery of the truck. Efforts are ongoing to recover the detached back body of the vehicle and arrest other members still at large.

The Commissioner thanked the public for the timely information and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing.
