Food Critic Opeyemi Famakin Fears Raising Children in Nigeria

Food critic, Opeyemi Famakin has sparked reactions after sharing his concerns about raising his future children in Nigeria.

In a recent discussion, he said his greatest fear is the environment they would grow up in, describing many Nigerians as “dull” in real life. Famakin added that he has no plans to relocate abroad because he wants to help build the country, but he worries about the kind of society his kids would be exposed to.

He compared Nigerians and Ghanaians, stating that Ghanaians possess better critical thinking skills while Nigerians excel more in business, creativity, and hustling.

Famakin emphasised that being business smart is different from being smart in everyday life and critical thinking. He warned that success in business should not be mistaken for overall intelligence.

The critic’s comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that certain aspects of Nigerian society can be challenging for raising children, while others criticised his generalisation.

Many pointed out that every country has its own strengths and weaknesses, and broad statements about entire populations can be misleading.

Famakin’s statement has opened up conversations about the quality of life, education, and social environment in Nigeria. Parents often worry about the kind of influences their children will encounter as they grow up. His remarks reflect a common concern among many Nigerians who want to stay and contribute to the country but also desire better conditions for the next generation.

The discussion has highlighted the need for continuous improvement in various sectors to make Nigeria a more conducive place for families. While opinions differ on the matter, Famakin’s honesty has encouraged many to think about the kind of future they want for their children and what role they can play in building a better society.

The conversation continues as more people share their thoughts on the topic.
