PDP Cannot Win Presidency Without Resolving Internal Crisis, Wike Warns
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot realistically win the presidency or achieve national electoral success without first addressing its deep-rooted internal crisis and power struggles.
Wike, who has been central to the party’s ongoing factional battles, dismissed claims that his actions were deliberately calculated to weaken the opposition party in favor of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He insisted that his stance is rooted in political integrity and realism rather than personal ambition or betrayal.
The FCT Minister placed blame on other party leaders, particularly accusing certain governors of being blindfolded by wealth and letting money drive political judgment instead of experience or structure. He also took aim at Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing him of breaching prior reconciliation agreements and fueling the leadership crisis through personal ambitions.
With the party divided between a Wike-backed caretaker committee and a rival Turaki-led National Working Committee faction, Wike warned that the PDP’s failure to abide by internal rules, respect court judgments, and heed senior voices would continue to cripple its cohesion and national influence. He maintained that until the party stops backdoor negotiations and genuinely resolves its structural fractures, its aspirations for the presidency remain out of reach.
