FRSC Confirms Two Deaths, Two Survivors in Ogun Road Accident
Two people lost their lives while two others escaped unhurt in a road crash that occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Ogere Junction along the Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, said the accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus whose registration number could not be identified.
The command’s spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that all four persons involved in the crash were adult males.
According to the FRSC, preliminary findings indicate that route violation and excessive speed were the likely causes of the collision. The impact caused the Peugeot J5 bus to burst into flames, with its front section completely destroyed by fire.
Odunsi said FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately diverted traffic to the alternative carriageway to prevent congestion while the wreckage was cleared.
He added that officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, evacuated the bodies of the deceased to a nearby mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations.
He warned against speeding and route violations, particularly during poor weather conditions and periods of reduced visibility, describing such traffic offences as major contributors to fatal road crashes.
Ogunjobi reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public awareness campaigns and rapid emergency response, while advising motorists to drive responsibly, observe speed limits and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling.
Earlier this week, the FRSC disclosed that 161 people died in 415 road crashes recorded across Ogun State between January and May 2026, while 1,007 others sustained varying degrees of injuries during the period.
