Abbas Celebrates Oyedele at 51, Applauds Role in Economic Reforms
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has felicitated the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, on his 51st birthday, lauding his contributions to Nigeria’s economic reform efforts.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas described Oyedele as an accomplished economist and technocrat whose expertise has played a significant role in advancing the Federal Government’s fiscal and economic policies.
The Speaker noted that the minister’s leadership in the ongoing fiscal and tax reform programme has contributed to the implementation of key economic initiatives aimed at strengthening the nation’s economy.
He commended Oyedele’s dedication to public service, saying his work has added value to the administration of President Bola Tinubu and supported efforts to drive economic transformation.
Abbas also praised the minister’s stewardship as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, highlighting his engagement with stakeholders and efforts to explain the objectives of the government’s tax reforms to the public.
According to the Speaker, Oyedele’s impact extends beyond his current position in government, describing his expertise as an important asset to Nigeria’s broader economic development agenda.
He further applauded President Tinubu for appointing skilled professionals to strategic public offices, noting that Oyedele’s elevation reflects the administration’s resolve to deploy competence in addressing economic challenges.
Abbas expressed confidence that the finance minister would continue to contribute meaningfully to economic growth, fiscal stability and national development.
He also offered prayers for wisdom, strength, sound health and divine guidance for Oyedele as he continues to serve the country.
Oyedele gained national recognition through his leadership of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded initiatives aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax system and improving revenue generation.
Following the completion of that assignment, President Tinubu nominated him as Minister of State for Finance, a position he assumed after Senate confirmation in March 2026. He was later appointed Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy in April 2026, succeeding Wale Edun.
Since taking office, Oyedele has remained a key figure in the administration’s economic reform programme, with a focus on fiscal policy, tax administration and revenue mobilisation.
