Luminary Project Unveils ₦6m Impact Fund for Social Innovators
The Luminary Project has announced up to ₦6 million in funding support for selected social innovators as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s social impact and development sector.
The initiative was unveiled during the third edition of the Luminary Awards held in Lagos, where 10 changemakers were recognised for their contributions in areas including education, healthcare, sustainability, youth empowerment, community development and social innovation.
Organisers said the funding programme is intended to provide practical support for grassroots innovators addressing pressing social challenges, moving beyond the traditional model of recognition through awards alone.
Speaking at the event, Executive Director of The Luminary Project, Napa Onwusah, identified limited access to funding as one of the major obstacles facing many social impact organisations across the country.
According to her, the organisation was established to spotlight credible changemakers whose contributions often go unnoticed despite their impact on communities.
Onwusah disclosed that the organisation currently operates three separate funding streams designed to meet the needs of different categories of social impact organisations.
She explained that the first fund targets outstanding performers within the Luminary Awards community, while the second provides periodic support to alumni beneficiaries of the programme.
A third funding window, she added, is dedicated to supporting non-governmental organisations outside the Luminary Project network.
Beyond financial support, Onwusah stressed the need for greater visibility, accountability and mentorship within the social impact ecosystem. She called for increased involvement of experienced professionals who can guide emerging NGOs and help strengthen their capacity to deliver sustainable results.
The event attracted representatives from major organisations, including , and the , highlighting growing collaboration between private-sector stakeholders and development-focused organisations.
Organisers said the event underscored the importance of partnerships, visibility and long-term support for individuals and organisations driving social change across the country.
They also urged development partners, institutions, corporate organisations and members of the public to support grassroots changemakers through funding, mentorship, collaboration and strategic partnerships capable of delivering lasting social transformation.
