Lakurawa Terrorists Kill Two Customs Officers in Kebbi Early Morning Raid
Gunmen suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group have reportedly killed two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in a violent attack in Kebbi State.
The incident occurred in the Tuga community of Bagudo Local Government Area when attackers invaded security checkpoints in the early hours of the morning.
According to preliminary reports, the assailants targeted two separate checkpoints during the raid. A senior three-star officer was reportedly burnt alive after the attackers set fire to the structure where he was resting, while a one-star official was shot dead during the ensuing confrontation. Two other personnel sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility.
The Lakurawa group has become increasingly active in the border regions of Kebbi and Sokoto states, frequently targeting security formations with brutal tactics. This latest assault follows a pattern of violence against customs and immigration posts along the Nigeria-Benin border corridor. While the Kebbi State Customs Command has acknowledged the attack, a full assessment of the damage is still being conducted.
In response to the ambush, security has been intensified across the Bagudo axis. Additional military and police units have been deployed to the area to track the fleeing insurgents and prevent further incursions. The resurgence of the group has caused significant concern among residents of these border communities, who have faced similar threats in the past.
The Nigeria Customs Service is expected to issue a formal statement regarding the loss of its personnel once family members have been fully notified.
For now, the region remains on high alert as security forces continue their sweep of the surrounding forests to locate the perpetrators.
