Troops Neutralise Terrorist, Recover Weapons in Kogi Ambush

Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected terrorist during an ambush operation conducted along bandit crossing points in the Adankolo Forest Reserve in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected terrorists within the area, according to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi.

Abdullahi said troops of the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group laid ambush at a suspected crossing point where they made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a firefight.

He stated that one terrorist was neutralised during the exchange, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds into the surrounding bush.

Items recovered from the operation included two AK-47 rifles, one fabricated pistol, six magazines and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The troops also recovered a camouflage bandolier, one Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks and N62,900 cash.

According to the statement, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts under Operation TIGER PAW II aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action and improving security along major routes and communities in Kogi State and adjoining areas.

The Army added that troops were currently exploiting the area to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
