Four Kano Lawmakers Defect from NNPP to ADC
Four members of the House of Representatives from Kano State have defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party to the African Democratic Congress, marking a fresh wave of party realignments in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers are Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko).
Their defection letters were read on the floor of the House on Wednesday by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary.
In a separate development, Kabiru Amadu, also known as Maipalace, representing Gusau/Tsafe federal constituency of Zamfara State, and Emeka Chinedu of Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte federal constituency in Imo State, moved from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The affected lawmakers cited internal crises within their former political parties as the reason for their decisions to switch affiliations.
The latest movements add to a growing pattern of defections in the House of Representatives, as political actors reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In recent weeks, the African Democratic Congress has recorded increased inflow of lawmakers from both the Labour Party and the APC, reflecting ongoing political realignments at the national level.
On Tuesday, Thaddeus Attah (Lagos), Usman Zubairu (Kaduna), and Sani Noma (Kebbi) also joined the ADC following departures from the Labour Party and APC, respectively.
