Adeleke Hails Davido’s “Osun to the World” Moment at Coachella 2026

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed immense pride in his nephew, Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following his historic performance at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.

The Governor commended the singer for using the global platform to project the rich cultural heritage of Osun State and the Adeleke family name to an international audience.

The Governor’s praise was triggered by a standout moment during Davido’s set on the Gobi Stage, where the performance opened with a traditional Yoruba Oríkì (praise chant) hailing from Ede, the singer’s hometown in Osun State.

Accompanied by vibrant red and yellow visuals and pyrotechnics, the cultural showcase turned the desert festival into a celebration of Nigerian roots. Taking to his official X handle, Governor Adeleke shared a video of the performance, captioning it: “Another proud moment. My nephew @davido putting the family, our heritage and state on the global map.”

Davido made history as the only Nigerian artist on the official lineup for the 2026 edition of the festival.

His 45-minute set was a high-energy journey through his career, featuring global hits like Dami Duro, Skelewu, If, and Fall. One of the night’s major highlights included a surprise appearance by fellow Nigerian star Adekunle Gold to perform their hit collaboration, High, further solidifying the dominance of Afrobeats on the world stage.

This public show of support continues a long-standing tradition of the “Dancing Governor” rallying behind his nephew’s professional milestones.

Earlier this year, Governor Adeleke was quick to offer words of encouragement after the 2026 Grammy Awards, and this latest tribute underscores the administration’s appreciation for the arts as a tool for cultural diplomacy and state branding.
