NELFUND Denies Suspending Student Loan Disbursements

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has dismissed a widely circulated notice claiming it suspended its student loan disbursement programme, describing the document as fake.

In a statement released on Saturday via its official X platform, the agency clarified that it had not issued any directive halting loan payments and urged the public to ignore the misinformation.

The fake notice had alleged that the scheme paused disbursements due to “unforeseen operational circumstances,” a claim NELFUND firmly rejected.

“This document is fake. Kindly disregard the circulating letter on suspension of student loan disbursements. NELFUND has not issued any such directive,” the agency stated.

NELFUND advised students and stakeholders to rely solely on its verified communication channels for accurate updates to avoid being misled.

The clarification comes amid heightened attention on the programme, which the Federal Government says has expanded access to higher education nationwide.

According to official figures, the initiative has benefited over one million students since its establishment, with more than 160,000 youths also receiving digital skills training under related interventions.
