The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested 14 suspects and recovered 17 stolen vehicles during an intensive operation in Abuja.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi announced the breakthrough on Wednesday, noting that the crackdown targeted car theft and “one chance” robbery syndicates.
The successful operations were conducted by multiple police divisions through strategic intelligence-led deployments between March and April 2026. These efforts specifically targeted criminals who snatch vehicles at gunpoint or steal them from various parking locations across the city.
A major highlight of the operation occurred on April 10, when officers foiled an active “one chance” robbery on a deserted road. After a brief shootout, police injured and arrested one suspect while rescuing two female victims who had been tied up inside the vehicle.
Following the rescue, one of the victims reported she had been raped by a gang member. Police subsequently tracked down and arrested the fleeing suspect, Cornellius Abang, who was positively identified by the victim and remains in custody pending investigation.
In a separate matter, the police arraigned content creator Pam Joshua for circulating a misleading video about bandit attacks in Abuja. She is currently remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre for spreading injurious falsehoods that caused public panic.
Commissioner Sanusi urged residents who have lost vehicles to visit the command headquarters for identification and recovery. While some owners have reclaimed their property, several recovered vehicles remain unclaimed, requiring proof of ownership for release.
The FCT Command has reinforced its commitment to public safety by intensifying patrols and intelligence gathering. Authorities reminded residents to verify security information with official sources to avoid criminal prosecution for spreading false information.
