President Tinubu Makes Fresh Appointments in Nigeria’s Education Sector

President Bola Tinubu has approved a series of new appointments and reappointments to key positions in Nigeria’s education sector.

These changes aim to bring fresh leadership and stability to important institutions that shape learning across the country. The moves cover examination bodies, technical education, polytechnics, and the national library, showing a focus on strengthening the foundations of education.

One major appointment is Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu as the new Chairman of the Governing Board for the National Examination Council (NECO). At the same time, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi has been retained as Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO. These roles are vital because NECO handles important national exams that millions of students take every year to move forward in their studies.

In the area of technical education, President Tinubu named Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the Governing Board for the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Prof. Idris M. Bugaje was reappointed as Executive Secretary of NBTE for a second and final five-year term. This board plays a big role in improving skills training and polytechnic standards to help young people gain practical abilities needed in the job market.

Other notable changes include Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as the new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic in N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a five-year term. Additionally, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has had her appointment renewed as Director and Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria for her final five-year term. These positions will help manage higher institutions and preserve knowledge resources for students and researchers.

The appointments are expected to bring continuity where needed while introducing new ideas to improve education quality. Many hope the new leaders will work hard to solve challenges like better exam systems, stronger technical skills, and wider access to libraries and learning materials.

Overall, the changes reflect efforts to build a more effective education sector that supports Nigeria’s growth and future.
