King Charles to Address US Congress on Historic State Visit

King Charles to Address US Congress on Historic State Visit Britain’s monarch, King Charles III, is set to address the United States Congress during an upcoming state visit to the United States, marking a significant moment in diplomatic relations between both nations.

The visit, scheduled for late April 2026, will be the King’s first official trip to the US since ascending the throne. He will be accompanied by Queen Camilla. During the visit, King Charles is expected to deliver a speech to a joint session of Congress, becoming only the second British monarch to do so after Queen Elizabeth II, who addressed US lawmakers in 1991.

The speech is anticipated to focus on the long-standing alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States, often described as the “special relationship,” as well as shared democratic values and global cooperation.

The state visit carries added diplomatic importance amid evolving political dynamics between both countries. The King is expected to meet with Donald Trump at the White House, alongside other senior US officials. Analysts say the visit reflects Britain’s use of soft diplomacy to reinforce strategic ties and maintain stability in transatlantic relations.

Activities lined up for the four-day trip include a state dinner, ceremonial engagements, and visits to key locations such as Washington, D.C., New York, and Virginia.

The royal visit is also expected to coincide with commemorative events marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. However, the trip has generated mixed reactions in political circles.

While some stakeholders view it as a necessary step to strengthen bilateral relations, others have raised concerns about the timing, citing ongoing political tensions and sensitive international issues.

Despite the debates, the planned address to Congress is widely seen as a defining moment in King Charles III’s reign, offering him a global platform to reaffirm ties between two of the world’s most influential democracies.
