Kebbi Trains Local Government Officials on Digital Communication, Information Management
The Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission has commenced a three-day training programme for senior local government officials aimed at improving digital communication and information management across the state.
The workshop, which began on Tuesday in Sokoto, is being held in collaboration with UBRA Communications and General Enterprise Limited and has drawn participants from all 21 local government areas of Kebbi State.
Speaking at the event, Abubakar Kalgo, representing the Chief Consultant, Ahmed Idris, said the training was timely, noting that effective governance now depends heavily on communication, transparency and engagement with citizens.
He explained that the programme is designed to equip Directors, Deputy Directors of Social Development and Information Officers with modern tools to communicate government policies in ways that resonate with local communities, while also enabling feedback to improve implementation.
The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Muhammad Garba, said the initiative forms part of efforts to enhance efficiency and service delivery at the grassroots level.
He stressed the importance of continuous training for personnel, warning participants against absenteeism and urging full engagement throughout the exercise.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Matters, Muhammad Naalla, said the training focuses on strengthening the flow of information from councils to rural communities through improved use of digital systems. He added that participants are expected to apply the knowledge gained to benefit their respective communities.
Naalla noted that the selected officers represent key departments, adding that training them would have a wider impact across local government structures.
Participants at the workshop expressed optimism about the outcome. Kabiru Duda, Director of Social Development in Augie Local Government, said the training would enhance communication of government activities to rural populations, while Fatima Muhammad Taji from Zuru Local Government commended the initiative, describing it as a boost to productivity.
At least 63 participants are attending the training, with four papers scheduled for presentation during the programme.
The initiative comes amid a growing shift by state governments toward adopting digital tools to bridge communication gaps between government institutions and grassroots communities.
