Senator Solomon Adeola “Yayi” Emerges as Ogun APC Consensus Governorship Candidate
In a landmark political development, the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unanimously announced Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” as its consensus candidate for the upcoming governorship election.
The decision was reached during a high-powered Strategic Caucus Meeting held in the state capital, where party leaders and key stakeholders converged to deliberate on the party’s succession plan. The move is seen as a strategic effort to maintain party cohesion and present a formidable front ahead of the general polls.
Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District and chairs the powerful Senate Committee on Appropriations, was endorsed following extensive consultations across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Party elders noted that the decision to adopt “Yayi” as a consensus candidate was born out of his “unmatched track record of service,” his deep-rooted legislative experience, and his widespread popularity among the grassroots. The caucus emphasized that this early resolution would prevent internal friction and allow the party to focus its energy on its developmental agenda for the people of Ogun State.
Following the announcement, the atmosphere at the caucus meeting was one of celebration as supporters and party faithful hailed the choice as a “victory for unity.” In his acceptance remarks, Senator Adeola expressed his profound gratitude to the party leadership and the incumbent administration for the trust reposed in him. He pledged to build upon the existing infrastructure and economic foundations of the state, promising an inclusive government that prioritizes youth empowerment, rural development, and industrial growth. The APC is expected to formally present its candidate to the wider electorate in the coming weeks.
