Edo Govt Donates Buses, Orders Hostel Evaluation at Usen Polytechnic

Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, on Friday inaugurated a five-kilometre network of internal roads at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, describing the project as a strategic investment in education and regional development.

The road project, facilitated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is aimed at improving campus mobility, safety and overall learning conditions within the institution.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Okpebholo commended the NDDC for the intervention, noting that quality infrastructure in educational institutions is critical to academic excellence and security.

“I am honoured to witness this network of internal roads constructed by the Niger Delta Development Commission here at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen,” the governor said.

“This project is more than asphalt and concrete; it is access, connectivity, safety, and opportunity for thousands of students and staff who use this campus daily.

“Road infrastructure within schools is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Good roads enhance security, improve mobility, support learning activities, and create an environment where excellence can thrive.

“By investing in this polytechnic, the NDDC is investing directly in the future of our young people and the economic advancement of the Niger Delta,” he added.

The governor urged students to take advantage of the improved learning environment, linking the development to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to partnering with relevant agencies to deliver projects that improve lives and accelerate growth across communities.

Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, lauded the collaboration between the state government and the NDDC, describing the commissioning as a demonstration of the power of partnership.

The Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu, highlighted the administration’s support for capacity building and scholarships.

He disclosed that seven lecturers had been sponsored to China for skill enhancement, while five students were sent abroad under state sponsorship.

Iyamu added that no student had been sent home over school fees and that all lecturer salary arrears since 2022 had been cleared, with plans underway to sponsor students on full scholarships to Turkey.

Iyamu expressed appreciation to the governor and President Bola Tinubu for providing resources through the NDDC to execute the project.

Also speaking, the Executive Director of Projects at the NDDC, Victor Antai, provided technical details of the road network and urged the institution and host community to maintain the infrastructure for sustained benefit.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Polytechnic Board, Sam Oboh, commended the partnership that made the project possible.

As part of the visit, the governor donated two new buses to the polytechnic and directed an evaluation of student hostel facilities to improve living standards.
