Lagos Police Arrest School Bomb Threat Suspect, Dismantle Notorious Robbery Gang
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Kosisochukwu Ogumbo for allegedly sending bomb threat messages via WhatsApp to two schools in the Ikeja GRA area.
The threats claimed that explosive devices had been planted on the premises, causing immediate panic among staff and parents.
Upon receiving the report, security operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, were deployed to the scene. After a thorough sweep, no explosives were found, and the schools were declared safe. Investigations eventually tracked the messages back to the suspect in Okota.
Regarding the incident, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, stated “This individual acted alone and deliberately attempted to cause panic among parents and school authorities. He will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
In a separate operation, the police also arrested eight additional members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate. This brings the total number of suspects apprehended in connection with the criminal network to 21, effectively dismantling the gang.
The Commissioner described the syndicate as a “double-edged” threat, explaining that they would rob cooperative victims but kidnap those who resisted for ransom. The gang also used a shrine in Idimu to force victims to swear oaths of secrecy.
Additionally, police operatives intercepted three vandals who had removed 154 electronic reflective markers from the Third Mainland Bridge. Several stolen vehicles were also recovered, including a Toyota Camry snatched while the owner was at a supermarket.
To bolster security, the Command has strengthened the School Protection Squad and deployed the Eko-Strike Force and a Nightlife Patrol Squad. The CP assured the public that Lagos remains safe for residents, investors, and visitors alike.
