NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Kiss Condoms in Markets
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert warning Nigerians about the circulation of counterfeit Kiss condoms in several major markets across the country.
The agency described the presence of these fake products as a serious public health risk.
According to NAFDAC, intelligence from the brand’s marketing authorisation holder revealed that falsified Kiss condoms have been found in major trading hubs including Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair Market in Lagos, and markets in Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe, and Enugu.
Kiss condoms, a widely used male latex brand, are designed to protect against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
The agency warned that counterfeit versions do not meet approved safety or quality standards and could fail to provide protection, potentially exposing users to infections, allergic reactions, and condom breakage.
The counterfeit products reportedly feature darker packaging, missing manufacturer details, incomplete or incorrect addresses, inconsistent barcodes, poorly printed text, and differences in size, thickness, and lubrication compared with genuine condoms.
NAFDAC has directed its zonal and state offices to intensify market surveillance and remove fake products from circulation. The agency urged distributors, retailers, healthcare professionals, and consumers to only sell, supply, or use condoms from authorised and licensed sources, and to carefully verify product authenticity before purchase or use.
The public has also been encouraged to report any suspected counterfeit condoms or medical products to the nearest NAFDAC office or via the agency’s alert line.
The warning is part of ongoing efforts to protect public health and ensure that Nigerians have access to safe and effective sexual health products.
