Spurs, Everton, Newcastle Qualify in Carabao Cup Second Round Continues
The Carabao Cup second round has produced several emphatic wins for Premier League sides, with two ties still to be played on Thursday.
Tottenham Hotspur thrashed Charlton Athletic 5-1 at home. Mikey Moore and Dominic Solanke scored before half-time, with Kevin Danso, debutant Savinho and Ben Davies adding further goals. Charlton grabbed a late consolation.
Everton were equally ruthless at Preston, winning 4-0. Thierno Barry scored a hat-trick as the Toffees eased into the third round.
Newcastle United came from behind to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2. Harvey Barnes scored twice against his former club after Bazoumana Touré had equalised, with Isaac Price on target twice for the Baggies.
Bradford City caused a shock by eliminating Burnley on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
Earlier in the round, Leeds United knocked Nottingham Forest out 2-0 at the City Ground, Brentford hit Birmingham City for six, West Ham beat Southampton 4-1, and Hull City advanced past Stoke on penalties following their weekend win over Manchester United.
Peterborough United also impressed with a 5-1 victory at Watford.
Chelsea host Luton Town and Fulham face AFC Wimbledon on Thursday to complete the second-round ties. The remaining Premier League clubs enter the competition in the third round.
