The Northern Senators’ Forum has condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, where worshippers and residents were reportedly abducted from several communities.

The attacks reportedly affected communities including Dekara, Gidan-Zana, Kpenya, Sabon Gida and Masata, with an unspecified number of residents taken away.

The senators described the incidents as unacceptable, particularly the reported abduction of worshippers from Kpenya Mosque after Friday prayers and residents from surrounding villages.

They called on security agencies to intensify their operations, track down the attackers and secure the immediate and safe release of everyone abducted.

The lawmakers also expressed concern over reports that the attackers planted landmines and carried out further abductions, describing the development as deeply troubling.

They urged the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies to strengthen coordination and rescue efforts.

President Bola Tinubu has also directed security agencies to launch a coordinated operation to rescue the victims and provide regular updates on the situation.

The Niger State Government has similarly deployed security personnel to track the attackers and urged residents to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing operation.

The senators called on the Federal Government to provide emergency assistance, medical support and additional security personnel to communities affected by the attacks.

They also advocated a comprehensive review of the security architecture in Niger State and other parts of the North-Central region to prevent similar incidents.

The Northern Senators’ Forum expressed solidarity with the people of Niger State and called for stronger intelligence gathering and community-based security measures to protect residents and prevent further attacks.
