I Would Be Worth €150 Million in Today’s Market, Says Yakubu Ayegbeni

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Ayegbeni has said he could have commanded a market value of around €150 million if he were playing football in the current era. He made the comment while reflecting on his career and the rising cost of transfers.

Yakubu noted that players who score about 10 goals in the Premier League can now attract fees of around €50 million. He pointed out that he regularly scored around 15 goals each season during his time in the English top flight.

The ex-forward recalled his £11.5 million move from Middlesbrough to Everton. He suggested that the same transfer would be valued at roughly €150 million in today’s market.

He also spoke about the pressure that came with big-money moves, including his earlier £7.5 million switch from Portsmouth to Middlesbrough.
Yakubu said players bought for large sums are expected to deliver strong performances to justify the investment.

Looking at his consistent goal-scoring record and the high fees paid for forwards today, Yakubu maintained that he would have been among the most valuable strikers of his generation if he were playing now.
